COMMUNITY FOUNDATION OF ORANGE NAMED
NON-PROFIT OF THE YEAR Orange Chamber of Commerce selects CFO for award The Community Foundation of Orange was recently named Non-Profit of the Year by the Orange Chamber of Commerce. The CFO, with 27 diverse volunteer board members, has been helping to build strong foundations in the greater Orange community. Celebrating their 20th anniversary in 2020, the CFO made a lasting impact on youth, families, seniors and veterans. President Dave Simpson remarked “This award from the Orange Chamber is so meaningful. The CFO has seen and felt the many challenges of 2020, and this award reflects the hard work of our organization to reach out into the community and make a difference where it counts the most. We are truly honored to receive this award from the Orange Chamber.” With a motto of “Give Where You Live” – the CFO takes pride in partnering with other organizations within the city to build strong relationships that help advance their mission, leading a passionate, unified effort to preserve and enhance its sense of community. The Foundation worked hard in 2020 to find creative ways to do the most good with limited resources. Partnering with Orange Home Grown in early spring, the CFO launched an “Orange Strong” yard sign campaign to support the small family farmers of OHG, and ultimately, the efforts of Waste Not OC Coalition. Providing $31,000 in aid, the CFO and OHG led a successful effort in bringing together the positive spirit of Orange while making a huge impact on the food insecure. In addition, as kids were quarantined, kept out of school and not allowed to participate in youth sports or group enrichment activities, the CFO, through their KidsPlayÔ program, put together recreation/art kits which were distributed to the Youth Centers of Orange, the Friendly Center, and the El Modena Family Resource Center. Continuing to find ways to engage our youth during the pandemic, the CFO provided funding for socially distanced art lessons, and made a grant to Pure Game for soccer instruction. As ending the year on a strong note, the CFO provided gift cards to 134 families for holiday food and toys. Working with the City of orange and other volunteer groups, the CFO was able to host the 6th Annual Field of Valor, honoring our active duty military and our veterans, raising funds which are being distributed to local veteran’s organizations such as the SCC Veterans Resource Center and Honoring our Fallen. As we begin 2021, together we will to continue making a difference, putting community first and addressing local needs. |
